The Voice Ben's Blog

The Voice to Parliament, its a great idea, but its around the wrong way.

The Voice is just the beginning of a momentous shift in consciousness for us recent arrivals. Before we arrived there were said to be about 1 million blackfellas. They were unanimous in there support for a zero immigration policy. A tiny number of Europeans arrived with a policy of mass immigration, among other things. The interlopers, set up a brutal military dictatorship, upon arrival. Facing ferocious opposition from the locals, the regime was reluctant to create anything resembling a democracy until the numbers were heavily in their favour. So they clinically and diligently set about changing the balance of power, using the simple and effective method of genocide. Combined with a massive project of what we now call branch stacking. Importing vast numbers of pro-immigration immigrants.
Having decimated the original inhabitants and replaced them with millions of their own supporters, the interlopers felt the time was ripe to start a democracy of sorts. But just to make sure, they prohibited the opposition from voting. So, obviously a democracy founded on genocide is not a democracy by any stretch of the imagination.

Every law passed in Federal parliament since its inception in 1901 is invalid, not worth the paper it is printed on, a load of hogwash, a sham,

an insult to the very notion of democracy!
The only way to redress this gross injustice is to allow the last remaining remnants of those nations that were decimated to look after their country they way they see fit.
So yes, lets have a voice t...

What fortune! Natural Newstead

Local observations of Gang-gang Cockatoos Callocephalon fimbriatum are few and far between for me.

These beautiful birds are regular migrants to the Newstead district in small numbers.

Attracted by the winter fruits of Hawthorn they are easily overlooked on account of their quiet nature and subtle plumage if you dont count the spectacular scarlet helmet of the adult male.

The Yandoit area is a local hotspot. Close to their summer home at higher altitudes along the Great Divide, they arrive in late autumn and depart by August most years. Ive only ever seen small flocks, typically an adult pair with a recently fledged immature. In the last decade their numbers have plummeted and the species has recently been listed as Endangered under the EPBC Act. Wildfires along the east coast have been a major factor in the perilous decline.

This pair was spotted by one of my staff earlier today. Sadly there was no third bird, suggesting a failed summer breeding effort. While the male is often considered the most striking, the female is, in my view, the star of the show.

Lace up your skates, an ice skating rink is popping up in Ballarat this winter "IndyWatch Feed Vic"

After its enormous success in previous years, a popular ice skating rink is making a comeback to help you make the most of winter.

Armstrong Street South will be transformed into a winter wonderland from 24 June through to 16 July thanks to the team at Stars On Ice, giving locals and tourists alike the chance to skate along the ice, with or without a skating aid to keep you upright.

Heres where to go ice skating across the region

Returning as part of the Ballarat Winter Festival (alongside the famed Winter Wonderlights, Knights of Fire and more), there will be great tunes and disco lights in the all-weather marquee, as well as child-friendly, sensory sessions with no music or flashing lights and restricted numbers and disco sessions on Friday and Saturday nights.

There will also be Bollywood on Ice sessions featuring DJ Bobby M mixing the hottest Bollywood tunes, and Latin Fiesta on Ice sessions with Live DJ Vico mixing the hottest Latin tunes.

Theres really nothing like gliding elegantly over a brightly-lit smooth ice rink (when youre able to finally let go of the side barrier, of course!), and watching kids navigate their way around is classic entertainment.

So unless youve got plans to hit up the snowy mountains in the region, this is the next best thing (and entirely more affordable) you can get up to when it gets colder.

Go on, get your skates on because tickets are now on sale for Ballarats pop-up ice skating rink.

Ticket Pricing

  • Toddler (4 years and under) $9
  • Child (5 14 years) $12
  • Adult (15 plus years) $18
  • Family (two adults, two children or 1 adult, 3 children) $48
  • Groups (10 or more, all ages) $10 per person

It all goes down at Armstrong Street South, Ballarat Central from 24 June to 16 July 2023. Tickets are on sale now. You can find out more about the Ballarat Ice Rink here
